The Waves Ahead Sustainable Community Strategy for 2010-2026 is a long-term strategic framework for achieving the things most important to local people in a way that ensures good things are preserved and improvements will be sustainable.
In 2009, many partner agencies, community groups and over 1,400 local residents contributed to the development of the Waves Ahead Sustainable Community Strategy. To establish the needs and desires of the area, statistical data and evidence from partners was balanced with the results of community consultation. All of this helped to shape the vision and priorities laid out in the Strategy under four themes:
- better health and wellbeing for all
- feeling safe and included
- strengthening the local economy and improving job prospects
- a better place to live, work and enjoy, with quality amenities.
In 2014-15, the thematic partnerships re-visited their strategic priorities to ensure they are still relevant and to decide which of these to focus on in the next few years. More information about current Waves Ahead priorities is available on our Priorities page.
